What we are about.

The RMCA was made to bring cichlid and aquarium hobbyists together, in a family friendly environment, for fellowship. By joining, and coming to meetings, auctions, gatherings, and parties, us cichlid nerds have a place where we can feel normal with each other, and be around other people with one common interest. FISH! Gain Knowledge, Buy, Trade, Sell, we aim to have our members feel welcomed, weather you are a beginner, or an expert. We Welcome all ages, including kids who are trying to get into the hobby, for they are the future after all! We hope to see you at the next meeting!

SEPTEMBER 8th MEETING! WELCOME BACK YOU ALL!

Alright you cichlid nuts! Summer break is coming to an end! Time to get things rolling again, and to kick off the new season, we have a real treat for you guys! Jimena Golcher-Benavides will be coming into town, to speak about her adventures underwater in Lake Tanganyika!

Jimena began working towards her PhD in the Program in Ecology at the University of Wyoming in Fall 2015. She came to Dr. Catherine E. Wagner Lab’s at UW with extensive background in tropical biology, particularly fieldwork with cichlids in her native Costa Rica and in Nicaragua. She received an MS from the University of Konstanz, Germany, prior to coming to UW. In the past two years, she has been conducting research in Lake Tanganyika, Africa, trying to better understand species distributions, ecology and variation. In her talk, Jimena will take the audience on a journey to the underwater world of Lake Tanganyika cichlids, share her experiences while in Tanzania and hopefully encourage others to go and explore cichlids in their natural habitat.

Sept_2017-GrowthCurtainClosed

Growth Contest Time! Every couple months we provide our Members with a fun game called a Growth Contest, where we bring in and sell some fry/juveniles basically at cost. Every time we hold a Growth Contest, we rotate the type of cichlid it is. Members who win in the Growth Contest get “Auction Dollars” Which get rewarded at the time of our big Auctions. Become a Member! Membership is only $15 for a Year! Memberships help fund these little events.

This month we will be bringing in a Rare South American species.

How it works…

For example: We usually bring in about 100 fry/juveniles. (Give or take) If 10 people raise their hand for entering the contest, each member will buy a bag of 10 fish. Or if 20 people raise their hand to enter, each person will buy a bag of 5 fish.

Growth Contest Rules:
1. Fish are NOT to be traded in, or resold to pet stores or online at anytime before the contest is due back!
2. This is a Members Only event.
3. It only takes 1 fish to win out of the bag lot you get. Who Ever Raised the BIGGEST ONE WINS!

Happy Growing.

(Click on image for a larger view)

Alright everyone! Lets make this meeting count! This is the last official Meeting we will have with Bob! So please, lets just gather around, and give him a great send off, as he starts the new chapter in his life in Florida!

Bob has been around in the RMCA longer then a lot of us have been alive. To many of us, not only is he the face of the RMCA, but a father figure and mentor to us in the fish hobby. Everybody knows Bob! He has helped this community not only in Colorado, but in the nation in general grow substantially. He is a great role model to many people. This club would not be what it is today, without his influence, his humor, and his love to help people, not only in fish, but in life as well. Bob understands the importance of the younger generation getting into fish. Always being up beat, and great with kids. His love and jolliness has rubbed off on all of us. Even if we are having hard times, just him being there brings uplifting feelings in our hearts. He is our Fish Dad. So lets gather together this month, and just fill the room with Fish, Love, and Bob!

Mini-Fish Auction! Please bring a bag or two to sell! Our Monthly Mini-Auctions have been growing, and becoming “not so mini” So if you have some extra fish you’d like to sell, plants, ext. Bring them! As Always we will try to bring in fish from Davesfish.com for the Mini Auction!
